The Liposuction Miami procedure, also known as lipoplasty and liposculpture, or “lipo”, is a surgical cosmetic procedure that targets stubborn fat deposits through a cannula and suction motion. Within this article, we will touch upon the commonly asked questions of lipo, the benefits of this procedure, ideal candidates, best plastic surgeons for lipo, cost, and so much more about this highly in-demand procedure!
What is Liposuction?
Commonly referred to as lipo, liposuction aims to help reshape and contour the body form by removing excess fat deposits and tightening the skin. Even with diet and active lifestyles, individuals may still suffer from fatty stores that they simply cannot get rid of. Lipo specifically targets these stubborn fat body areas such as the flanks (love handles) abdomen, arms, legs, and upper back.
Performed on almost every body part imaginable, the most commonly requested areas for lipoplasty are listed below:
- Waist
- Flanks- “Love Handles”
- Hips
- Upper Arms
- Lower Abdomen
- Upper Abdomen
- Buttocks
- Inner Thighs
- Outer Thighs
- Anterior Thighs
- Knees
- Lower Legs
- Chest
- Back
- Cheeks
Pros and Cons of liposuction
Patients who undergo a lipo procedure can benefit from both emotional and physical changes along with achieving their body contouring goals safely and effectively.
Because lipoplasty has become such a popular procedure worldwide, it has also become one of the most performed and perfected cosmetic surgeries available on the market.
Lipoplasty surgery is not only used to safely remove any unwanted fat but also to eliminate any unwanted cellulite, sculpt and perfect curves in the body along with adding great amounts of contour to areas that have previously plateaued with exercise such as the legs, back or abdomen.
Just like most other surgical procedures, there are complications and risks that are involved with the Lipo. Because this procedure involves a fat transfer and lipo to achieve a more attractive and youthful look, both of these techniques have their own set of risks including asymmetry, hematoma, infection, embolism, overcorrection, prolonged swelling, fat necrosis, under-correction, and nerve damage.
Best candidates for Lipoplasty
Individuals who are looking into undergoing a lipo procedure should be fairly healthy and should not have any life threatening conditions in order to help achieve maximum results and a speedy recovery. A good candidate for liposuction procedure should also be no more than 25 pounds from his/her ideal goal weight, as too much fat removal can become a safety hazard.
We recommend patients begin an exercise and diet routine prior to undergoing surgery in order to ensure that the body is in healthy conditions and that the individual will not have a hard time adjusting to the routine afterwards the procedure. Potential candidates should refrain from smoking at least 4 weeks before the procedure in order to help the body heal and recover quickly.
Liposuction procedure at Jolie Plastic Surgery in Miami
Very similar to a vacuum, liposuction Miami is performed with the use of a suction device or aspirator along with a hollow tube called a cannula which is inserted and removed repetitively beneath the skin in order to break apart and extract any fat from the area in several different ways and methods. Often times, lipo is performed in common trouble areas such as the neck, arms, thighs, back and abdomen region.
Because these areas are known for their unwanted fat pockets-which can be very difficult if not impossible to remove through exercise lipo uses different techniques to break apart and liquefy all of this fat in order to give the body a perfect slim and slender appearance.
Although lipoplasty plastic surgery can remove great amounts of unwanted weight from the body, it is not a substitute for exercise and a nutritious diet. Both a healthy diet and rigorous exercise regime will be needed in order to maintain any unwanted fat from returning. Excess fat that is removed from certain trouble areas can also be re-positioned or re-inserted into different parts of the body such as the buttocks.
Different types of liposuction Miami
There are currently three different techniques through which lipo procedures are executed. Although there is a great variety in lipoplasty treatments such as slimlipo, smartlipo, laserlipo and many others; traditional liposuction procedures are performed through Suction Assisted Lipo, Power Assisted Lipo and Ultrasonic Assisted Lipo methods which all have many differences and similarities.
Make sure to consult with your plastic surgeon in order to decide which technique is best for you.
Power assisted liposuction
Power assisted lipo is very similar to the suction assisted technique except in the sense that it consists of a mechanical hollow tube or cannula that performs the procedure through smaller incisions in the skin. This technique also allows surgeons to perform the procedure in shorter amounts of time and with more precision.
Because the cannula used with this technique is mechanical, it reduces the physical force required from your lipoplasty surgeon, especially in areas with large amounts of fibrous tissues, as the vibrations of the cannula easily make their way through and liquefy any unwanted mass.
This technique offers both patients and surgeons a more comfortable and speedy experience. The power assisted lipo method can also be used in a great variety of trouble areas such as the abdomen, male chest area, buttocks, legs, arms, and many others.
Tumescent liposuction
Suction assisted liposuction is the traditional method used to perform liposuction procedures. This technique will be operated manually by your surgeon and will have a small cannula attached to a pressure vacuum in order to break apart and suck away all of the unwanted fat in certain trouble areas.
This method is often times the most commonly used when large amounts of fat are being removed and extracted in a short amount of time. Because of this, suction assisted lipo is commonly used in larger trouble areas such as the back, buttocks and the abdomen along with the thighs. This technique is usually the most cost effective method available in comparison to other techniques used worldwide.
Ultrasound liposuction:
Of all the different techniques associated with lipoplasty procedures, Ultrasonic assisted lipo is known to be the least traumatizing procedure available on the market. This is because the ultrasonic technique uses ultrasound to liquefy any unwanted fat in the body unlike the manual power assisted cannula or the suction assisted cannula.
This technique produces softer, smoother and more natural results as the unwanted fat is collected from the body once it has been liquefied. This technique can be used in trouble areas such as the abdomen, back, and male breast area.
Laser-assisted liposuction
the desired area is injected with a saline solution, generally containing local anesthesia. The doctor then inserts a tiny cannula containing the laser fiber into the small incision and directly into the layers of the targeted fat. The energy transferred from the laser causes the fat cells to be destroyed and then drained away.
Each area that is treated takes less than an hour and involves much less bruising and bleeding than traditional lipo. The usage of the laser results in a very clean and painless procedure with minimal scarring. Laser Fat Removal can be performed on various areas of the body including the abdomen, hips, thighs, arms, buttocks, etc.
At Jolie Plastic Surgery, we understand that all the lipoplasty options available on the market can make it difficult for patients to decide which procedure best suits their needs. We always recommend that patient do extensive research on the procedure of their interest. Also, to choose a surgeon that is highly-educated, certified, with bedside manners so that the patients can feel secure yet, comfortable.
Choosing the right surgeon for a liposuction
Jolie Plastic Surgery always suggests that patients perform thorough research when deciding which plastic surgeon to perform any procedure on their body. Remember that the results for cosmetic procedures are supposed to be durable; therefore, you should be very comfortable with your doctor. We suggest looking into the doctor’s educational history, training, and previous work such as before and afters.
The best liposuction Miami surgeons take the time to listen to your desires based on your initial consultation. They will properly evaluate you in determining if you an ideal candidate for this procedure. After the evaluation, they will discuss what technique best suits your body composition and personal goals. And finally, together with a patient, they will decide on the goal from the procedure.
Dedicated lipo surgeons will also provide you with individualized instructions for post- operative care. They will be willing to display some of their work such as before and after pictures so that patients can get a better sense of the surgeons’ technique. The doctor will also be at the patient’s disposal by willing to address any questions or concerns a patient may have
Liposuction recovery
Recovering from a lipoplasty, very similarly to any other procedure can be one of the most important and crucial parts of your surgery in regards to achieving your body image goals. Just like many procedures, lipo does have a recovery period that can range from 2-8 weeks depending on the individual and his/her body’s reaction to its wounds.
Although recovering from a procedure is not always the most comfortable thing to do, it is very important that patients follow any and all instructions given by their doctor. Patients should also maintain their pressure garments on until their surgeon has indicated that it is okay to have it removed. 8.2 You will be given a post-operative garment to aid in the healing process and swelling after the procedure.
It is suggested that patients wear their garment for approximately 2 weeks after the surgery to decrease the swelling. After the 2 weeks with garment wear have been completed, patients may switch over to a less compressive garment such like the typical tightening garments sold in department stores. This underclothing garment should be work for approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
This added pressure will help smooth out and evenly distribute the remaining fat and skin to look natural and contoured. You may feel some swelling, burning, bruising along with soreness and pain for the first few weeks; but this will soon come to an end and you will be able to perform your normal daily activities.
What to expect after liposuction?
After the procedure is complete, bruising and swelling become apparent due to the body’s natural healing process. Some patients may be under the impression that the lipoplasty did not fully perform to their desires because of the amount of swelling that is noted.
However, after the swelling gradually diminishes, patient can expect to see their contoured results. Patient can expect to see their full results within in approximately 3 months but every individual healing process varies. This is because the cells “injured” during lipo slowly die (atrophy) and it may take several weeks for the body to return to its original shrunken state.
Lipoplasty is not the overall solution to obesity and poor eating habits. While it can eliminate fat cells in a specific area, it cannot eliminate fat on the whole entire body at once. Also, undergoing liposuction does not mean that fat cells cannot ever again grow in the treated area if the individual continues an unhealthy diet and sedentary lifestyle. However, if the patient continues a healthy lifestyle, the results of their lipoplasty can be seen for a lifetime!
Average cost of liposuction
The cost of surgical fat removal varies depending on the areas chosen and the amount of fat deposits being removed from the area. Generally, smaller areas with less fat cost less than the larger areas. If you are interested in undergoing lipoplasty, it is best to book a consultation with your doctor for more specific details and an accurate estimate for the procedure cost.’
Typically, the average cost for a Liposuction is around $2,500 up to $7,000 per area which includes the specials that some facilities may offer. The American Society of Plastic Surgery states that
“The average cost of lipoplasty is $3,200, according to 2016 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Liposuction cost can vary widely. The average fee referenced above does not include anesthesia, operating room facilities or other related expenses. A surgeon's fee will be based on his or her experience, the type of procedure used, and the geographic office location. Many plastic surgeons offer patient financing plans, so be sure to ask.”
The price of the procedure varies according to:
- Surgeon’s experience
- State in which the procedure is performed
- Complexity of the procedure
The complexity of the procedure includes the amount of lipoplasty that must be performed and the amount of fat transfer that the patient desires. This depends on various factors, for example, the number of areas to be sculpted and condition of these areas.
You can set up a consultation with one of our doctors in order to be more specific and have the opportunity to discuss your goals with us. By visiting the Jolie Surgery Center, you will be able to select the best plan for you, and obtain an accurate estimate of the price for this procedure. Jolie Plastic Surgery has the best prices in all South Florida.
At Jolie Plastic Surgery, we understand that paying for the lipoplasty procedure may not be a possible option for many of our patients. This is why we offer a variety financing plans through systems like Care Credit in which the patient would need to be pre-approved.
We also accept in-house payment plans that only require a minimum deposit. Patients can also take advantage of Our “Lay Away Plan” which requires a minimum deposit of $500 at a 0% interest rate!
